Metabolic Rate Measurement For Clinics

Most primary care clinics and medical weight management specialist forgo screening/testing for abnormal metabolic rates in at-risk patients and those refectory to treatment. Why? In part, because metabolic rate testing is not covered under provincial health plans. In part, because the number of patients who would warrant / desire metabolic testing is insufficient to cover the time, resources and return on investment to justify it purchasing & maintaining an Indirect Calorimetry device.

We work with primary care clinics and other medical weight management specialists to offer onsite metabolic testing clinics for their patients. Each clinic in our network allocates an examination room for 'Metabolic Clinic Days' based on demand (i.e. prepaid tests). This ranges from a half day a month to 2 days a week and even 1 week every 6 months for more remote clinics. No financial commitment required.

 We provide patients with accurate measurement of their Resting Metabolic or Basal Metabolic Rates using FDA certified indirect calorimetry technology. Patients paying out of pocket or covered by their extended health care plan are provided with a detailed report of the results, including screening for metabolic suppression.  A copy of the results are sent to the referring health care professional on the same day.

We provide the metabolic testing equipment, supplies, trained  technician(s) and online booking, payment and cancellation system. We also assist each clinic with developing a professional and ethical awareness campaign to inform their patients of the service. Each medical clinic provides one examination room with an examination bed or large comfortable chair, reception seating, and is responsible for their facilities overhead. 

 This approach to metabolic rate testing enables,

• clinicians to rule out metabolic suppression and safely prescribe a calorie deficit, 
• to detect metabolic adaptation (e.g. stalled rate of weigh loss) and adjust caloric intake and timely implementation  of activities to off-set muscle loss. 
• Accurately assess patients suspected of metabolic suppression (e.g. metabolic rate below 15 kcal/day/kg)  
• an additional source of revenue that contributes to clinics' profitability.
